The ruling coalition partners - UCPN (Maoist) and United Democratic Madhesi Front(UDMF) - on Monday decided to focus their attention on timely constitution drafting rather than forming a national consensus government.

A meeting between the Maoists and UDMF held at Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar on Monday resolved to intensify high-level discussions to promulgate the new constitution within the May 27 deadline.

However, the top leaders of the ruling coalition partners also clarified during the meeting that if an amicable situation for formation of a national consensus government arises then they will not be an obstruction to it, but rather play a role of a facilitator.

Today's meeting of the ruling coalition partners was called after the issue of formation of national consensus government suddenly cropped up in the high level political parleys.

During Sunday's top level meetings between the major political parties- UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) - rather than the core agenda of state restructuring, the most contentious issue related to the constitution drafting process, the top leaders had spent their time discussing formation of national unity government after NC raised the agenda arguing that it was one of the components of the seven point agreement. nepalnews.com
