The United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) and the Janajati Constituent Assembly Members' Caucus on Thursday reached an agreement to stand in favour of identity-based federal system.

The UDMF and the Janajati CA members Caucus signed a four-point agreement following a discussion held in Singha Durbar. They agreed to vote for identity-based federalism. As per the agreement, the Madhesi parties and the Janajati CA Members' Caucus will lobby together in favour of federating the country based on "single identity".

Some CA members from Dalit and Muslim communities were also present in the meeting. They too agreed to go for identity-based federal model.

They also concluded that state restructuring should be done based on the 14-state model prepared by the CA's thematic committee and the 11-state model recommended by the State Restructuring Commission.

The agreement between the UDMF and the Janajati CA members came as the CA prepared to start process for voting on the disputed issues of the new constitution. nepalnews.com
