Local administration in Kailali stalled relief distribution to flood victims on Tuesday due to threats by local Maoist leaders, Annapurna Post daily reported.

The district committee for disaster relief had sent a consignment of food to be distributed to some 4000 families of Tikapur municipality, and Narayanpur, Dahnsinghpur VDCs Monday evening with a plan to begin the distribution from the next day during Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal's visit.

On hearing such news, more than hundred persons from Dhansinghpur had reached the VDC office to collect the relief. However, they returned empty handed after they did not get the relief.

I got a threat from Maoist leader of Tikapur area Motiram Jaisi not to distribute the relief, said Gagan Singh Thakulla, VDC secretary of Dhansingh VDC.

VDC secretary of Narayanpur VDC Sarbananda Chapain also said Maoist leader Jaisi called him and threatened him not to distribute the relief. Jaisi told not to distribute the relief as his party did not support the relief distribution, Chapain said.

Maoist leader Jaisi said, he had not threatened the VDC secretaries, but asked them not to distribute the relief on Tuesday as the details of the flood victims had not come.

We have got information that the relief distribution that was to begin Tuesday was obstructed by the Maoists, Kailali Chief District Officer Hari Krishna Poudel said. nepalnews.com
