In an attempt to prevent a vertical split in the party, UCPN (Maoist) establishment faction has handed over a proposal on party unity to hardliner leader Mohan Baidya on Wednesday.
Party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal handed over a seven-point proposal to vice chairman Baidya during a meeting held at Dahal's residence in Lazimpat.
Receiving the proposal, Baidya told Dahal that he would clarify his final position after holding discussions with other leaders of his faction, according Dahal“s aide Shiva Khakurel.
In the proposal, the establishment faction has stated that it was ready to review the controversial decisions taken since the formation of the government including Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPPA) signed with India, discuss the agenda of changing the leadership in the party and change the government, among others. The establishment side has also shown readiness for self-criticism for decisions taken in the past.
In the meeting with chairman Dahal on Tuesday, Baidya had sought written proposal on party unity from party establishment. nepalnews.com
