Police on Wednesday arrested the mastermind behind the bomb blast at Babarmahal in the Capital on February 27 this year which took three lives.

41-year-old Raj Kumar Tamang, aka Bishwokranti, was arrested in connection with the  bomb blast in front of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) building in Babarmahal, said Biratnagar Police.

Originally from Hile of Dhankuta district, Tamang was arrested from his hideout in Lumurpa-2, Gushpate Lekh of Panchthar district by a special police team dispatched from Biratnagar.

Tamang was brought to Biratnagar today itself and made public by organising a press conference a short while ago.

During the press conference, Tamang, who is chief of Samyukta Jatiya Mukti Morcha (SJMM), admitted that he masterminded and detonated the bomb at Babarmahal to protest the hike in prices of petroleum products by the NOC. He also clarified that he didn’t carried out the blast with the intention to take anybody’s life or spread panic among the citizens.
