Scores of artistes join Maoists; CC member quits

Dozens of popular artistes including movie producers, directors, actors and singers have joined the Unified CPN (Maoist). Â

Party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal welcomed as many as 94 artistes and handed them party membership amid a function organised in Kathmandu Saturday. Â

Those joining the Maoists include movie producers and actors Neer Shah, Yubraj Lama and Mausami Malla and popular fight directors Rajendra Khadgi and NB Maharjan.

Emerging singer Anju Panta, who escalated to fame with her song ‘Na Birse Timilai’ also joined the Maoists.

Most of the artistes who joined the Maoists Saturday were previously known to be close to the monarchy.

UML leader Hasta Bahadur KC also joined the Maoists on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Maoist central committee member Tika Bikram Hamal quit the Unified CPN (Maoist) to join the Revolutionary Left Wing led by a former Maoist leader Mani Thapa. nepalnews.com Jun 28 09
