The Election Commission (EC) has urged major political parties to amend the constitutional provisions including related acts in order to hold the Constituent Assembly (CA) election on time.

The EC on Sunday called a meeting with the top leaders of the three major political parties – UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, NC Vice-President Ram Chandra Paudel and UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal – at its office in Kantipath to forge consensus on amending the constitutional provisional and related acts within a week or else it would be impossible to hold the CA election within the stipulated time of November 22 this year.

Chief Election Commissioner Nil Kantha Uprety, Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav, Secretary Shankar Prasad Koirala attended the meeting representing the office of Election Commission.

The EC’s request to the major political parties to strike the consensus within a week comes on the day the deadline for constitutional amendment expires. nepalnews.com
