The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued an interim order asking the government not to implement the ordinance introduced to provide lifelong state facilities to the former VVIPs.

After conducting a hearing on a writ filed by advocate Bharat Mani Jangam seeking nullification of the provision to provide hefty perks to the VVIPs, a single bench of Justice Tahir Ali Ansari directed the government not to implement the ordinance regarding the state facilities to the VVIPS from the sate coffer till the final verdict is made.

The government had recently introduced an ordinance to provide state facilities including vehicles and apartment rent to former prime ministers, home ministers, chief justices and speakers.

Following wide spread public resentment against the government decision, the UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, UML chairman Jhala Nath Khanal, senior UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Nepali Congress vice president Ram Chandra Poudel and speaker Subash Nemwang have already returned the state-owned vehicles to the government. nepalnews.com
