Hundreds of people affiliated to Newa Mukti Morcha, a Maost-affiliated organisation of the Newar community, started a motorcycle rally Saturday morning on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1130.
The rally passed through Banepa, Panauti, Palung, Kulekhani and Naubise, demarking the proposed Newa Autonomous state. More than 500 motorcyclists and some cars participated in the rally.
Chairman of Unified CPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurated the rally. Addressing the inaugural function, chairman Dahal said, regressive forces were conspiring to foil the establishment of caste-based sates.
Maoist vice chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha and leader Hitman Shakya also participated in part of the rally.
The Morcha also has organised a cultural programme in Palung Saturday evening. nepalnews.com
