Nepali Congress leader Bilamendra Nidhi Friday said the next election should be for the Constituent Assembly (CA) as the constitution drafted by any other means would not be acceptable to all.

NC leader Bilamendra NidhiSpeaking at the Reporters Club, Nidhi said establishment of the CA remains priority and that the dissolved CA sould be revived in the form of the legislature parliament for amendment to the Interim Constitution in order of conduct fresh CA polls.

"Seeking fresh mandate through the election is the best option," said he, "Since we need to amend the constitution, the House should be revived for a brief period."

Nidhi's statement contradicts the opinion of majority of the district presidents of the NC, who had suggested the party leadership to go for parliamentary elections instead of CA elections.

He also claimed that the party had earlier decided to make Sher Bahadur Deuba as the prime ministerial candidate for consensus government and Ram Chandra Poudel as the candidate for majority government and that the decision still held.

The NC would choose its PM candidate once the President issued a call to the parties to form new government and that either Deuba, Poudel or Sushil Koirala would be the PM candidate for unity government, Nidhi said. nepalnews.com
