Student unions affiliated with nine different political parties including the Nepal Students Union of the Nepali Congress and the ANNFSU of the UML staged dharna (sit-in) at the District Education Office across the country with the set of demands including a directive to private colleges to change their English names, on Wednesday.

Works at the DEOs were affected for some time due to the dharna. In some DEOs, the protesting students prevented the staffers from going inside the office. The dharna ended at 1 pm.

The student unions have also demanded strict provisions to regulate the fees of private schools and colleges along with a ban extravagant publicity during admission time.

Earlier, the student unions of the NC and UML had removed the hoarding boards of some of Kathmandu's private colleges with English names from public places.The CPN-Maoist's student union had even vandalised the properties of some private colleges. nepalnews.com
