UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal intensified political parleys since early Tuesday morning by first meeting opposition Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala and then calling on President Dr Ram Baran Yadav.

In a bid to forge consensus among political parties, Dahal reached Koirala’s residence at Maharajgunj this morning and discussed how parties can do away with their differences and build mutual trust and confidence to end the current political crisis facing the country.

Emerging from the meeting, Dahal informed reporters that he will make yet another effort to forge consensus among the parties on crucial issues – whether they need to go for yet another election for Constituent Assembly or reinstate the already dissolved Constituent Assembly – by calling a meeting of the top leaders of three major political parties – UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, and CPN (UML).

Immediately after the meeting, Dahal rushed to Shital Niwas to meet President Yadav and informed him about the latest efforts to forge consensus among the parties to end the longstanding political stalemate.

During the meeting, President Yadav is learnt to have requested Dahal to work to forge understanding among the parties at the earliest and resolve disputed issues stalling the peace process.

In response, the Maoist chairman informed President Yadav that he has called a meeting of the three major political parties for that same purpose. Dahal also requested the President to endorse the four ordinances the government forwarded to him on Monday.

It must be noted that the three major political parties agreed on Sunday to move ahead as per "politics of national consensus" after doing away with the misunderstanding and differences among themselves. The top leaders of the three parties also reached a tentative agreement to let the Special Committee, whose tenure was extended by three more months last week, complete the remaining task of army integration and pave the path for successful conclusion of the peace process. nepalnews.com
