Girija Prasad Koirala Tuesday morning at the latter's residence in Maharajgunj, Powell is learnt to have suggested Koirala to finalise the issue of Maoist combatants at the earliest possible.

She is also learnt to have discussed the current political scenario and obstruction in the parliament, expressed concerned over the continued political instability and reiterated her government’s support for Nepal’s peace process.

In response, Koirala is learnt to have assured Powell that the parties would resolve the current differences shortly and move together in writing a new constitution within the stipulated time.

Powell has been called back by US President Barack Obama to be the director general of the US Foreign Service in the State Department. She served as US envoy to Nepal for two years.

She leaves Nepal next month. nepalnews.com ia June 30 09
