Senior Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba
Senior Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the term of the Constituent Assembly can be extended if the constitution is not issued within the stipulated time.

"There is provision for extending the term of the CA by six months. We can again extend its term if we are not able to issue the constitution within the deadline," Deuba said, adding, "But we must make sure the new constitution gets promulgated and peace process is taken to a conclusion."

Speaking at a programme organised by the NC in Dhangadhi Thursday Deuba said big parties were trying to forge consensus, but there will be no compromise on the President's move and the government leadership.

Deuba maintained that the President's move has become a moral issue for the 22 parties. "We asked the President to make the move and now it has become a moral question for us."

He also said that the proposed high-level political mechanism comprising the top leaderships of major political parties is meant to assist in the peace process and  constitution-drafting, not for changing the government. nepalnews.com
