Thousands of landless squatters, who had engaged in a fierce clash with police yesterday after the latter started dismantling their huts at Dudhejhadi jungle, Kailali district, have left the place.

According to reports, no squatters were found n the area when police continued the demolition today. They have moved towards Lamki, Chisapani and nearby places. Police on Saturday had demolished at least 300 huts.

During the clashes yesterday at least seven people were killed, including a policeman. The Unified CPN (Maoist) organised demonstrations against the police action  in Dhangadhi and other places today.

They also enforced bandh (shutdown strike) in Kailali, Banke, Bardiya, Kanchanpur and Dang districts today.

The squatters had captured a large area of the forestland for settlement at the initiation of the Maoists. nepalnews.com
