The government has promoted Brigadier Generals Nar Bahadur Kandel and Narendra Rawal of Nepal Army (NA) to the post of Major General, Wednesday.

A cabinet meeting held yesterday promoted the two brigadiers on the recommendation of army headquarters.

NA had forwarded recommendations to the Council of Ministers for promotion of the brigadier duo Kandel and Rawal and designated as acting chiefs of its western and eastern regional headquarters, respectively, about two months ago. Kandel and Rawal have become the chiefs of the NA's regional headquarters after the promotion.

The cabinet meeting on Wednesday also decided to provide a relief of Rs 1 million to the family of Kailali-based slain journalist Jagat Prasad Joshi.
