Vehicular movements in various parts of the country including capital Kathmandu has been affected on Thursday due to strikes called by various groups.

Transport entrepreneurs have halted traffic along Pasang Lhamu highway that connects Kathmandu with Nuwakot and Rasuwa demanding compensation of the micro bus torched on July 20.

Cadres of Tamsaling Joint Struggle Committee (TJSC) had torched a micro-bus in Balaju on July 20 alleging it of defying a bandh.

Traffic in Kathmandu was affected as the transport entrepreneurs took out a rally along with their vehicles from Balaju to Singha Durbar.

Micro-buses plying on north-west part of Kathmandu including that of route no. 23 and route no. 5 have not plied since Wednesday.

The TJSC has also called a transport strike in Trishuli-Rasuwa section of the Pasang Lhamu highway alleging the transport entrepreneur's of manhandling a TJSC lawmaker.

Similarly, transportation has been obstructed in various parts in the Terai including the East-West highway due to a strike called by Federation of Other Backward Class (FOBC).

FOBC has called a strike demanding the implementation of an 11-point agreement, which includes various programmes to empower the backward class people, reached with the erstwhile Maoist-led government.

Police have arrested a dozen FOBC cadres including its vice-president Omadeshwar Sah, Rabi Thakur and Shambhu Shaini from Saptari and Kapilvastu for forcefully obstructing traffic. nepalnews.com
