President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal have cancelled their pre-scheduled trips to Lumbini to attend a function to mark the Buddha Jayanti due to the deepening political crisis in Kathmandu.

President Yadav was invited as the chief guest and PM Nepal was invited as the special guest at the function.

As the President and the PM cancelled their trips, culture minister Minendra Rijal will become the chief guest at the function.
