The election for the chairman of the Constitutional Committee (CC) chairman of the Assembly Constituent Assembly has been set for August 17.

CA chairman Subash Nemwang fixed the election date after consultation with the chief whips of the three major parties in the CA - Unified CPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) - on Monday.

The post remains vacant since May 23 when the then chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal became Prime Minister. No meeting of the committee has taken place since then.

The Unified-Maoist is preparing to field vice chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai for the CC chair while Nilambar Acharya of the NC is likely to challenge him. nepalnews.com
