Nepali taekwondo players’ fail to qualify for London Olympics 2012

The last hope of Nepali taekwondo players  to qualify for the London Olympics 2012 came to an end on Sunday as all the players failed to make through the Asian Qualification held in Bangkok, Thailand.

The players including Manita Shahi, Ayasha Shakya, Rohit Tamang and Ashish Maharjan failed to qualify for the London Olympics 2012 after losing their respective matches in the qualifier game.

Manita lost her semifinal match in women’s under-67kg even though she had chances for the third position. Manita lost to Dieu Linh Chu Hoang of Vietnam.

Similarly, in women’s under-57kg, Ayasha lost her second round of the tournament though she had beaten Sze Ngo Wu of Hong Kong in the first round but had to rap her bag after losing to Mayu Hamada of Japan in the second round of tournament.

Likewise, in men’s under-58kg, Rohit lost his first round of match against Cambodian players while Ashish lost against Nikpaa Rohollah of Afghanistan in the second round match of the men’s under-68kg.

Of the total 99 players from the 30 Asian Countries, only 24 players from 13 countries could break through the qualifying tournament for the London Olympics 2012.

Taekwondo players Sangina Baidya and Deepak Bista were the only players to reach Olympics in 2004 Athens Olympics and 2008 Beijing Olympics respectively. nepalnews.com
