Representatives of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) have arrived in Kathmandu on a technical mission aimed at assisting the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to develop aviation safety roadmap.

The EASA mission is here in line with the European Commission's objectives of enhancing aviation safety not only in Europe but at a global level, a statement issued by EC said.

“The mission will take up two major areas of work. The first will focus on carrying out an appraisal of the structure, organisation and staffing of CAAN in order to ensure that it has the necessary independence and resources (human and financial) to carry out its air safety oversight responsibilities,” the EC said.

The second area of focus, according to the statement, will be to review administrative and technical procedures of CAAN for the certification and continuous surveillance of Nepal’s aviation industry. nepalnews.com
