The Non Resident Nepalese Association of New Zealand (NRNA NZ) has organised fundraising events in New Zealand for Samata Schools in Nepal. The NRNA NZ said it has planned a series of fundraising programmes in different cities and towns of  New Zealand.

So far, two fundraising programmes have been organised in Waimate and Invercargill in the South Island of New Zealand.

The programme in Waimate on April 28 drew around 300 guests. Most of them were local people apart from some Gurkha soldiers who were in training in the region.

The attractions of the night were Nepali cultural dances and traditional cuisine. Nepali arts and crafts and souvenirs were on display and sale. A total of 8,000 NZD was collected from the event, NRNA NZ president Chakra Thapa said.

Another Nepali cultural fundraising evening was held in Invercargill on May 6. The event drew around 200 individuals including local New Zealanders, who contributed 6000 NZD for the cause. nepalnews.com
