The Surkhet police have arrested Ashok Shahi from Baridya for his involvement in smuggling of brown sugar.

Acting on a tip-off, police caught Shahi from Ghantaghar Line in Birendranagar-6 along with 430 milligrams of brown sugar packed inside the plastic bags, Superintendent of Police Govindaram Pariyar told state-owened news agency RSS.

Twenty two-year-old Shahi who originally hails from Gulariya Municipality-7 is currently living in Birendranagar. He has been kept at the District Police Office and is being interrogated, it is said.

Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for one Rim Bahadur Khadka from Baluwa-5 of Salyan who allegedly looted gold ornaments from a woman of Maintada VDC.

Khadka allegedly looted gold ornaments from Seti Poudel, 40, after offering her tempted cold drinks.

Khadka is son of Seti's maternal uncle. He offered tempted cold drinks to his sister and made off with her jewelries and a mobile phone set last Saturday, it is learnt. nepalnews.com
