Dahal urges Qatar’s PM to resolve labour problems

In light of recent reports on ill treatment of Nepali and other migrant workers in Qatar as it prepares for World Cup, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has urged Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Al Thani to resolve the problems faced by the labourers.

Unified CPN (Maoist) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is currently on a visit to Qatar, held a meeting with Qatar's Prime Minister Thani on Thursday. Dahal left for Qatar on Wednesday to inaugurate the third convention of UCPN (Maoist)-aligned People's Progressive Forum, Qatar. He is scheduled to address the event on Friday.

"There is wide complaint that Nepali workers have been facing troubles in many aspects including payment of their labour. I would like to request Qatari government to address problems at the earliest possible," Dahal said, according to his personal secretary Chudamani Khadka.

During the meeting, Qatar's Prime Minister Thani urged Nepal to supply competent human resource while lauding Nepali workforce as honest and diligent. The Prime Minister expressed his readiness to take bilateral relations between Qatar and Nepal to a new height, said.

He also pledged to resolve problems Nepali workers have been facing for Nepal's economic development and flow of investment.

Dahal held a meeting with Qatar's Minister of Labour, Abdullah Saleh Al Khulaifi. On the occasion Chairperson Dahal made a plea to resolve the problems facing Nepali workers in Qatar.
