The government has collected revenue worth Rs 39.96 million by issuing a total of 88,515 machine readable passports (MRPs) until February of the current fiscal year.
At a news conference at Ministry of Information and Communications, Spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Dipak Dhital said that 116 special MRP were distributed in the month of Magh while seven diplomatic passports were distributed during the same period.
The MoFA has increased the number of MRP forms collection centers to six from three, Dhital said adding that online registration system has been implemented to ease the passport distribution system.
As high as 10,000 MPR seekers visit the Department of Passport daily hoping to collect the passports in time even though they could collect their passports from the concerned District Administration Offices.
On a separate context, spokesperson Dhital said that Nepali migrant workers in Malaysia were facing trouble due to the Malaysian government's crackdown on undocumented migrant workers.
The MoFA is investigating into the issue and Nepali Ambassador in Malaysia is effortful to resolve the problems faced by Nepali migrant workers, Dhital said.
Dhital said that nearly 2,000 Nepali migrant workers are undocumented in Malaysia as per the initial report while over 7,000 Nepali migrant workers have already received legal documents and travel permits.
He further said that two Malaysians have been recruited with support from Foreign Employment Promotion Board to take initiative for rescue and find out if there were any undocumented Nepali migrant workers.
