Valentine’s Day food festival kicks off in Sauraha

Hotels in Sauraha have announced 20 percent discount on food and accommodation as part of the three-day food festival that kicked off in Chitwan from Thursday. It is the eighth food festival.

The discount is offered on the occasion of Valentine's Day to visitors.

On the occasion of Valentine's Day, the visitors coming to celebrate the day here can enjoy various events such as cultural performances, waiters' race, tourists' race, tug-of-war, slow cycling, musical chair among others to make couple's stay in Sauraha further attractive and charming.

According to Chairman of local Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal (REBAN), Sitaram Kumal, REBAN has organised a Chicher-eating competition. Chicher is a famous dish of the Tharu people.

Besides these, the visitors can also enjoy usual services including elephant ride, boating, and jungle safari where they will get to see rhinoceros, tigers, and other animals in the wild, he added.

REBAN has invited national level artists for all three days to make the festival a musical one. The organizer estimated the cost of the event at Rs. 3.6 million. It has a program of investing the income earned from the festival activities for the Bright Sauraha campaign. REBAN has a plan to invest certain amount of the income for making Sauraha clean and green, said Rajendra Kharel, a member of REBAN.

Sauraha hotels have a capacity to serve around 2,500 tourists daily.
