A national conference of internal auditors will be held for the banks and financial institutions (BFIs) in Nepal focusing on new concept of Risk Based Audit System with the local and international experts in Kathmandu on July 20, 2014.
Senior Expert on risk based audit, Theresa Karunakaran, ex-general manager of Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Banking Supervision Department and a trainer of NIBM, India, will be the resource person of this program, informed the organiser - National Banking Institute (NBI).
Karunakaran represented the Department of Banking Supervision in RBI interaction with IMF and the World Bank Team constituted by FSB to asses India’s compliance with Basel II principles.
She had earlier conducted a number of training programs on behalf of RBI and NIBM to the staff of commercial banks in India, according to NBI.
Further, an Internal Audit Forum of BFIs, Nepal, has recently been formed in coordination with the NBI and Banking Academy of Nepal with the objectives of sharing knowledge, skill, issues and challenges in this area.
Likewise, the Forum will also focus on the training requirements to enhance knowledge and skill of the staff of Internal Audit Department of BFIs, Nepal.
Members of the Forum comprise of internal auditors of banks and financial institutions. This is the first its kind of Forum established for the internal auditors of BFIs in Nepal.
