The Inland Revenue Office (IRO) has made public the names of 249 companies and owners with the details of three generations, as they failed to pay the Value Added Tax (VAT) in time.

The IRO has also issued warning of taking stern action, if those companies fail to pay the defaulted amount within a week.

The IRO Kathmandu-1 Babarmahal office published the list of VAT defaulters in Gorkhapatra Daily on Monday.

Some renowned business enterprises and owners have also been listed in the public notice with details. They include late Jamim Shah of Space Time Network, late Narayan Singh Pun of Karnali Air, Geeta Chhetri of Galaxy Public School (also a member of Constituent Assembly), Sharik Ahamad Lari of Hotel Everest, Nir Bikram Shah of Sangrilla Channel, Nabin Kumar Sharma of Name Institute for Medical, Uddav Poudel of Gopi Krishna Movies, Jayanti Shah, former royal family member and owner of Annapurna Hotel and Sakunta Lal Hirachan of United Builders.

Likewise Suraj Baidya of Solaris Infrastructure, Siddhi Man Basnyat of NB Insurance, Badri Kumar Shrestha of Nobel Hospital and Research Centre, Gita Shrestha of Star Mall Construction Company, Bhaskar Raj Rajkarnikar of Avenues Television and Ujjwal Sharma of Himalayan Times have also been listed.

The IRO has further warned of freezing the defaulters’ movable and immovable properties, including land and buildings.

The IRO has simultaneously denied government facilities to the defaulters, requesting the government agencies to block banking transactions and export-import businesses of the defaulters.

The IRO office took this decision of making public the tax defaulters to meet the revenue collection target of the government seven days before the current fiscal year ends on July 16.
