With an objective of expanding appeal of Nepali handicraft in the domestic market and also encourage its export business, the 12th Handicraft Trade Fair and the 10th Craft Competition is being organised at Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall in Kathmandu from November 20-24.
The fair will is supported by the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, Trade and Export Promotion Centre, Micro-Enterprise Development Programme (MEDEP), FedEx and Civil Bank, Federation of Handicrafts Associations of Nepal (FHAN), said in a statement.
Wooden products, silver jewellery, metal work, handmade paper, leather products, natural fibre, and bamboo, among others, will be displayed at the exhibition. Similarly woollen, cotton, dhaka and pashmina products will also be displayed.
FHAN said handicraft makers from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Oman will also participate.
On the same occasion, the 10th Craft Competition will be held, according to FHAN. The competition will be in two categories -- silver work and wood craft.
The fair will feature more than 200 stalls. FHAN says more than 30 stalls and five pavilions have already been booked.
According to FHAN, Rs 8 billion worth of handicraft is bought in the domestic market while the value of Nepal's export of handicraft products to the US, China, India and European countries stands at above Rs 5 billion.
The fair is scheduled to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
