The Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) will import 3400 goats to Kathmandu targeting Dashain this year.
Each year, around 30,000 goats are sold during the period.
According to the Deputy General Manager of NFC, Nawaraj Upadhyay, the import was aimed at controlling price monopoly exercised by the private sector.
The corporation said the goats would be imported from Surkhet, Banke, Bardiya, Dang, Makwanpur, Siraha and Parsa districts.
The corporation's concerned zonal office will procure the goats at a price determined by a team comprising District Agriculture Development Officer, Food Corporation Officer and farmers under the leadership of the Chief District Officer.
