Traditionally, the Fulpati, the procession bearing the jamara and other items necessary for Dashain's tika, is carried on foot from Gorkha, about 169 kilometres away from Kathmandu, all the way up to Dhading district. Then, six Brahmins carry them to Jamal, Kathmandu.
However, Fulpati arrived in Kathmandu in a micro bus instead of on foot this year. Once it reached Kathmandu, traditions caught up and it was carried by Brahmans to the Dashain ghar in Hanuman Dhoka.
A military parade was organised at Hanuman Dhoka palace. After the function ended, the Fulpati was taken inside the Dashain ghar in the palace.
Fulpati marks the beginning of Dashain feasts. It is also the day when official holidays begin in offices.
