Mendham native honored by Dalai Lama for humanitarian work in Nepal

It has been nearly a decade since Maggie Doyne left her native Mendham to travel the world — and found her calling in helping others.

The 2005 Mendham High School graduate, now 27, founded the Kopila Valley Children's Home and School in Surkhet, Nepal, a remote Himalayan village, with $5,000 of her life savings in 2010. The school educates 350 boys and girls, and Doyne has become the legal guardian of 44 children who otherwise would not have access to medical care, schooling and love.
