Amid criticisms about controversial remarks made by Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Gaurab SJB Rana, Nepal Army has issued a statement saying that CoAS Rana had never given such an interview.
Times of India had quoted Rana saying that China cannot afford to enter India in a report published on Friday, October 4, in what it called an “exclusive interview” in Chandigarh, India.
"China is too pre-occupied with the Tibetan issue. And, then there is Xinjiang region facing the separatist movement. The PLA cannot afford to enter India, or for that matter Nepal. Whether it's the mighty Himalayas or the Indo-Gangetic plains, they have no reasons to make incursions into India. There are no provocations," Rana was quoted in the Times of India’s report.
Nepal Army has refuted the statement made in Times of India. “At no cost, has Gen. Rana given any kind of formal interview to any media during his visit to India. Therefore, the news about his remarks was totally out of context and baseless,” reads the statement by the Directorate of Public Relations. “It is out of the question for the Nepali Army leadership to comment on such sensitive issues in public or in interviews.”
CoAS Rana was on a week-long official visit to India on the invitation of Chief of Army Staff General Bikram Singh of Indian Army and returned on Saturday.
