The tunnel construction of the Upper Mai Hydropower Project being developed at northern Mabu in Ilam district has been completed.
Nearly half of the entire works of the hydropower project with 9.98 megawatts was finished with the completion of the tunnel construction, according to the Mai Valley Hydropower Company.
So far Rs 200 million plus has been spent and the project would be completed within one and a half years, Executive Director of the Project Santosh Kumar Pradhan said.
The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 1.6 billion.
"Other works would take a speed after the break through of the tunnel and the project would be completed in the slated time," Pradhan added.
Likewise, Sanima Hydropower Company is constructing two hydropower projects one each in Danabari and Chisapani in the district planning to complete them by next year.
