Eight of the houses were in Myaglung and the remaining three were in Deudi bajar. The fire began in a readymade clothes shop belonging to a local, Chitiz Rai, at 1 am on Sunday. According to the District Police Office, the fire is now under control.
Police suspect that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Details are being collected on the damage caused by the fire, said DSP Umashankar Panjiyar of the District Police Office.
The damaged houses had shops of Dhaka fabrics, electronics, utensils, cosmetics, readymade clothes, meat and dairy. There were also three small restaurants.
According to CDO Kali Prasad Parajuli, five of the houses damaged in Myaglung belonged to Chiranjibi Man Shrestha. The three other houses belonged to Jay Prakash Dhakal, Raghu Nath Shrestha and Nagendra Timsina. Timsina’s house was damaged while the fire was being brought under control.
The houses that were destroyed in Deudi Bajar belonged to Pralad Uprety, Arun Kandangwa and Khagendra Tamang.
