Two MJF-D leaders were attacked by an unidentified gang in Siraha district on Wednesday.
MJF-D candidate for Siraha constituency no. 4 and former state minister Satrughan Prasad Singh including Chandra Dev Yadav, who had recently joined the party after quitting Nepali Congress, were attacked when they reached Javed Khan’s house at Balkawa to exchange festive greeting on the occasion of the Bakra Eid festival Wednesday night. Khan is the MJF-D candidate for constituency no.5.
However, both managed to survive the attack without any kind of injuries.
The District Police Office Siraha confirmed the attack and said two vehicles in which Singh and his party activists had reached Khan’s house were vandalised in the incident.
The unidentified attackers, who Chandra Dev claimed were Nepali Congress activists angry at his sudden desertion of the party, also made away with Rs 100,000 in cash and other election materials they hoped to use during their election campaigning from the vehicle, police said.
Former state-minister Singh said he survived the attack hiding in Javed’s house, which was also vandalised in the incident. He said the unidentified gang intended to kill him.
State-owned news agency RSS quoted CDO Anil Kumar Thakur as saying that the security forces were mobilised as soon as they knew about the incident, but it was difficult “as it was night time.”
Police said they are investigating the incident and the perpetrators will soon be nabbed.
