A meeting of Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) on Sunday decided to call the meeting of the newly elected Constituent Assembly as soon as possible.
In the meeting held at UML’s parliamentary office in Singha Durbar, both the parties agreed that there is no point wasting time without first activating the CA.
“We have agreed that we will submit the list of Proportional Representation (PR) candidates within the December 18 deadline of Election Commission. We will also take initiatives to make other parties submit their PR lists,” said UML chairperson Jhalanath Khanal after the meeting.
Earlier, in its parliamentary board meeting today, the NC decided that the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) has to expire when the first CA meeting begins.
NC and UML, which have emerged as the first and second largest parties, have been attempting to forge consensus with the third largest party, the UCPN (M) in the HLPC, but to no avail.
The UCPN (M) has been claiming of vote rigging during the November 19 CA elections, demanding a probe commission for the same.
On the other hand, the NC and UML have been stressing that such a body can be formed within the structure of the new CA.
