CPN-UML chairman Jhal Nath Khanal has said that the new constitution will represent a common agenda of all parties.

Speaking at an interaction programme organised by Society for National Dialogue in the capital on Friday, Khanal said that although there are contentious issues, the parties will come to a common conclusion for the constitution.

“Even now there are doubts that the constitution will be formulated within a year,” Khanal said. “As the leader of CPN-UML, I vow that the constitution will be made within a year, by formulating consensus between all stateholders. It will represent a common agenda of all parties.”

He added that the first Constituent Assembly failed because of structural weakness but that the second CA will heed to the people’s aspirations. Khanal said that the first CA has already established consensus on several issues and the remaining matters will be resolved.

Agreeing with Khanal, Nepali Congress leaders Chitra Lekha Yadav said that the second CA has no option other than to formulate the constitution. However, at the same program, MJF-Nepal chairman Upendra Yadav said that even this CA will not be able to reach its objective.
