An early morning meeting between leaders of Nepali Congress and UCPN (Maoist) on Friday has decided that all contentious issues will be decided upon with discussions between the top three parties this week.
Intensifying talks with top parties, leaders of Nepali Congress headed to the residence of UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Lazimpat today.
The two parties held talks on government formation and other processes of the Constituent Assembly. The meeting ended with a decision to hold talks with leaders of the top parties within few days to iron out all contentious issues so that the constitution writing process is not delayed. A date has not been fixed yet.
“We came to an understanding to hold discussion between the top leaders of the three parties to reach consensus on issues of government formation,” said NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula after the meeting. “UCPN (M) is in agreement that as the biggest party, Nepali Congress should lead the government. We believe that a government of consensus should be formed.”
NC president Sushil Koirala, Ram Chandra Poudel, Prakash Man Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula were present in the meeting with UCPN (M) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Krishna Bahadur Mahara.
In the same line, NC had held a meeting with CPN-UML leaders on Thursday evening. Although the two parties are in consensus on most issues about government formation and constitution writing. However, the parties have different opinion on the continuity of the present President and vice-president. CPN-UML has been arguing that with the new mandate of the people, there should be an election for the two positions.
