Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh has reiterated that the elections of local bodies (DDC, VDC, municipalities) will be held within the six months.
Speaking at a program in Kathmandu Thursday, Singh said the lack of people’s representatives in the local bodies has increased hassles of the citizens to get services from the government offices.
“We want to end the difficulty faced by people while receiving services from the local bodies. For this to happen, we need to conduct the local body elections,” Singh said.
“Local body elections are further needed to end the current situation of corruption, irregularity and anarchy within the local bodies,” he added.
Singh said the government is also committed to enact a new constitution soon. “We repeat our commitment that a federal, democratic and republic constitution will be issued in the next one year,” he said.
Deputy PM Singh also holds the portfolio of the Ministry of Local Development.
