A day after UCPN (Maoists) and CPN-Maoists released a joint statement against holding local elections, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and CPN (UML) senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal have held discussions on the issue.

The two met at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar on Friday morning. UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari was also present in the meeting.

"We discussed holding local elections within mid-June this year at any cost,” said Nepal after the meeting. “We also held constructive talks on removing the delay seen in constitution writing."

Answering a question about the denial by UCPN (Maoists) and CPN-Maoists to hold local elections, leader Nepal said that it was party of the Maoist’s agenda and they have to rise above the fear of loss in the election and participate.

Leader Nepal added that it was imperative to hold the local elections now because after the constitution is finalized time will be used to change the state structure.
