PM Koirala takes briefing on Nepal Army’s role and future plans

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has received briefing about Nepal Army’s role, responsibility and future plans this morning, according to a statement issued by NA on Monday.

In the briefing, the NA put forth six main targets incorporated in the vision for the next 10 years.

Presenting the briefing at army headquarters, Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Gaurav Shumsher Rana said the National Security Policy and relevant strategies have to be guided by the constitution of Nepal. There has to be the participation of Defense Ministry and recommendation of National Security Council in such a policy and its strategies, CoAS Rana said.

Commenting on the recently concluded Constituent Assembly polls, CoAS Rana said NA is a Democratic National Power and the Bulwark of Democracy.
“We need to gradually develop NA into a power that capable, agile, adaptable and robust,” CoAS Rana added.

After receiving the briefing, PM Koirala praised the role of NA in maintaining national security and playing other national and international roles. PM further expressed his commitment that he would do his best to convert NA into a modern force.

The briefing was attended by two Deputy PMs Bamdev Gautam and Prakash Man Singh along with other ministers of the government of Nepal.
