The CPN (UML) has rescheduled its ninth general convention for July 3 to 9 from the previous set June 7 and 13.
The central committee meeting of the party on Monday decided to postpone its general convention by almost a month.
As the technical preparations have not been completed to hold the party’s general convention on the scheduled date as proposed earlier, the party has decided to reschedule the convention, said Pradip Gyawali, chief of UML’s Publicity Department.
UML parliamentary party leader KP Sharma Oli is undergoing treatment in Bangkok and party’s chairman Jhalanath Khanal is leaving for China on Tuesday for a 10-day visit. “These are also reasons behind the postponement.” said Gyawali.
In the UML’s upcoming national convention, Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal are likely to contest for the post of party chair, while the incumbent chair Khanal is expected to step down.
