Of the eight judges recommended by the Judicial Council (JC) in the Supreme Court, Cholendra Shumsher JBR and Jagdish Sharma Poudel furnished their clarifications on Sunday at the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee regarding the allegations lodged against them.
Asked by lawmakers about JBR's involvement to give a clean chit to former minister Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta on corruption charge, the incumbent acting chief judge of appellate court claimed that conspiracies were rife to sack him from the post by making a basis to the corruption case against Gupta.
Refuting the allegations charged against him, JBR said that he discharged duties without being deviated from any side and claimed action against him was not recommended during the time of former chief justices Dilip Kumar Poudel to Ram Kumar Shrestha.
JBR also claimed that he has not given Rs 20 million to a Judicial Council member for his recommendation in the SC justice.
Altogether 10 complaints were lodged against JBR.
Likewise, another SC nominee Jagdish Sharma Poudel said that he made no financial embezzlement in cahoots with his son in connection to the drug smuggling case and claimed that the loser lodged a nameless plaint.
Asked about sharing a hotel with Chief Justice after his recommendation in the SC justice, Poudel said that it was his responsibility to inform the Chief Justice about his region and he fulfilled his responsibility by doing the same.
He also said that he did not share the hotel with Chief Justice and he chose to stay in the guest house of District Court, Chitwan.
