PM Koirala, Indian PM Modi congratulate newly elected UML Chairman Oli

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and other top leaders have congratulated CPN (UML) parliamentary party leader KP Sharma Oli on his election as the new chairman of the party.

PM Koirala, who is presently in the US in course of his medical checkup, telephoned leader Oli last night and congratulated him on his election to the new UML chair, according to Oli's personal secretary Ramesh Acharya.

Leader leader Oli was elected the new party chairman through the Ninth National Congress of the party yesterday

In his phone call to chairman-elect of the CPN (UML), government coalition partner, Prime Minister Koirala pledged cooperation on the matters of constitution-making and on works of government priorities after he returns to the country. In response, leader Oli stressed the need of new course of action to face challenges facing the country, collectively.

UML outgoing Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and leader Madhav Kumar Nepal congratulated newly elected Chairman of the party on the phone last night.

Similarly, leader Oli has received best wishes emails from India's PM Modi and Amit Shah, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for his election to the new Chairman of CPN (UML).

Likewise, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress Acting President Ramchandra Poudel, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula and former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa have congratulated leader Oli by phone today, Acharya said.

Party cadres and well wishers have gathered at Oli's Balkot-based residence today to congratulate their newly-elected party chairman.   

Leader Oli will get his certificate of new party chair during the concluding session of the Congress at 1:00 pm, Thursday at the party central office.  Oli was elected to the post by defeating his rival leader Nepal with 44 votes.

Meanwhile, vote count of party central members and office-bearers of central commission is going on.
