Minister for Information and Communications, Dr. Minendra Rijal, said the country will get a federal democratic constitution on the stipulated date, January 22, 2015.
Talking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport on Monday, Minister Rijal said the schedule of constitution writing process is in the final phase, so, the constitution will be promulgated in the slated time.
Minister Rijal, who is also the Spokesperson of the government, said the political parties are holding discussions to forge consensus on the forms of the governance, federalism, and other disputed issues in the constitution writing process and to bring the draft of the constitution by mid-September.
The Prime Minister might intervene if the political parties fail to forge consensus in the contentious issues, Minister Rijal said.
Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has started talks with the political parties in and outside the Constituent Assembly (CA) from Monday, he said, adding that the process of writing draft of the constitution has reached the final phase.
Minister Rijal said once the country gets a new constitution, it would be clear who would be the next President, Vice-president, and Prime Minister.
He further said that the Nepali Congress is committed to implement the seven-point agreement signed between the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), adding that if there were any weaknesses in the agreement it could be corrected.
Minister Rijal arrived in Biratnagar to participate in the 10th anniversary of the Udghosh Daily.
