CIAA files corruption case against 25 forestry officials

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed corruption cases against 25 forestry officials and some community forest owners at the Special Court in Kathmandu Friday.

The cases were filed against 11 government officials including former forestry officers and rangers. The remaining 14 individuals were the post-holders of community forestry groups. All arrested were from Bara district.

"We have filed charge sheet against all of them today," said CIAA spokesperson, Sridhar Sapkota.

In its charge-sheet the CIAA has alleged the 25 individuals of haphazardly cutting down and selling trees of different species. In total, 51,570.46 cubic feet of wood worth Rs 34.2 million was embezzled, according to the charge-sheet.

The charge-sheet was filed against former district forestry officer Mohan Koirala and assistant forestry officers Ram Manohar Sah, Mohamad Samiullah, Prakash Kumar Barma, Ashok Kumar Jha and Shyam Kumar Nirala, among others.
