Senior professor Dr Govinda KC has decided to resume his hunger strike in response to the government’s inaction despite commitment to fulfill his demands. Sources confirmed that KC will begin his hunger strike again at 2pm on Saturday.
Dr KC had broken his 14-day long hunger strike on 24 January after the government agreed to address his three major demands which included ending all kinds of political interference in the health sector and appointing Dean at the Institute of Medicine (IoM) on the basis of seniority of doctors.
However, over two weeks after the government’s commitment, no concrete steps have been taken to address demands put forward by Dr KC. His ultimatum to the government expires on Friday.
Dr KC’s protest against political interference and influence of medical mafia had been backed by doctors at TU Teaching Hospital and Nepal Medical Association. In solidarity with his strike, hospitals had closed down all operations except emergency services for a week.
