As many as 285 species of flowering plants, considered rare in the world have been found in Nepal.
The research work of the scientists at the Department of Plant Resources disclosed this fact recently. The department has recorded these local plants and has claimed that these plants could be found only in Nepal, department sources said.
Yam Bahadur Thapa, Director General at the department has said that this research has created maximum possibilities to garner the ownership of these pants in Nepal in the near future.
According to the research, these flowering plants could be found in Himalayan and hilly regions between the altitude of 3,400 to 4,000 metres, particularity at Annapurna, Dhorpatan, and She-Phoksundo regions.
The department is conducting and providing services in the field of research, scientific identification, recording and development of plant resources in Nepal. The department is multidisciplinary organization comprising mainly of botanists, chemists and pharmacists and aims to develop scientific research in the area different plants in the country, department sources said.
Likewise, the different district wise programs of the department have been launched in Ilam, Dhanusa, Makawanpur, Jumla, Salyan, Banke and Kailali districts these days, it is learnt.
