The Press Council Nepal has formed a three-member task force to investigate the details of report published by Nagarik daily on alleged discrepancies by Dil Shobha Shrestha who runs an old age home Amako Ghar.
Nagarik daily has published a report last week which alleged that Shrestha was housing children in the old age home without permission and earning cash by sending them as domestic helpers. The report, based on a one-sided recording of a telephone conversation, also hinted that Shrestha was involved in sexual exploitation. More than 30 children were rescued from the organisation.
According to the Council, the task force formed by the Code of Conduct Monitoring Sub-committee includes former Registrar of Supreme Court Dr Ram Krishna Timalsena as the Coordinator and Reader at TU Department of Journalism and Mass Media Prawal Raj Pokharel and Chairperson of Nepal Press Institute Shova Gautam as members.
It will look into whether there were enough facts to back the allegation of sexual exploitation, if the report was premeditated and if the report follows ethics of journalism.
